Trainsjoch (1708m)

Trainsjoch winter alps

Trainsjoch is first in 2016!

The first mountain of the season is always something special and it comes unexpected and spontaneous most of the time. 🙂

To hike up the Trainsjoch, a 1708m high peak in the Mangfallgebirge on the German-Austrain boarder, was never really on the list. But after doing some research on which summit we could reach without snowshoes, we came to this one – and it turned out to be a great hike.

After a short 45-60 minute hike on a well-prepared road, we reached the Mariandlalm, a lovely familiy-owned alp/hut which is open for business on sunny days in winter as well.

No traces and trails…

We decided to first proceed to the Joch and get a cold drink there afterwards, as it was still quite early and the sun was out. But it turned out to be more difficult than we expected..

After the last snowfall anybody went all the way up, so from the alp there were no traces or tracks further up the hill. 🙂 Thankfully we met two snowshoe hikers on their way to the summit as well, so we could follow them in their footprints, which was still really exhausting. Almost every step we went into knee-deep snow or slideda meter backwards.

Beautiful views of Wilder Kaiser

When we reached the Joch, we were soaked in sweat, even it were only roughly 700 height meters we covered. Part of the way we walked only in T-Shirts, but at the Joch there was a lot of really cold wind. Therefore we recommend to bring a thicker down jacket like the Superdry Mountains one Maggy felt in love with immediately. 🙂

Open your eyes and see the beauty!

The views into the “Wilder Kaiser”, a mountain range of the Austrian Alps next to the Brixental, were breathtaking!

We had a little lunch on top and after a refreshing cold drink at the alp we were quickly back at the car and on our way home.
