Trailrunning around Meran/Naturns

Trailrunning Meran

Meraner Land – an Alpine-Mediterranean Mountain Mix 🙂

2016’s Easter Escape to South Tyrol was an adventure-filled week of Snowshoeing, Climbing and Hiking – aaaand TRAILRUNNING!

Staying close to the beautiful town of Meran, the original plan was to go for a MTB-tour which the area is quite famous for. But due to some minor injury of Maggy, we had to switch to something “on foot”… 😉 Which ended up to be a lot more fun than we thought in the beginning!

The Meraner Land (area of Meran) is a beautiful part of South Tyrol and has the perfect combination of the German-Austrian-Alpine-flair mixed with a Mediterranean input from Southern Italy. In March and April the temperatures can climb over 25° Celsius and therefore it is the perfect spring destination for outdoor sports lovers like us!

Trailrunning the Sonnberg above Naturns

Our travel lead us to the base of the Sonnberg mountain above the cozy little town of Naturns, where our trailrun started. The rest of our group (two really cool blogger-couples from Out of Office and Do geht’s Auffi – thanks again for the great days guys!!!) set off with the bikes and guide from the funny-named Ötzi-Bike-Academy.

Actually at the first moment we were a little demotivated that we couldn’t go biking as well, but as we were the first to reach the meeting point for lunch on top of the mountain, we got our motivation back. No bikes had overtaken us! 😀

After we had covered merely 700 meters in altitude, we met the others at the Oberratschillhof, a traditional farmhut famous in the MTB-community for their great dumplings and good location on the mountain. Right after lunch we thought that we wouldn’t be able to run down one single meter :-), but after a few steps on the trail we were absolutely into it. The beautiful mountain landscape above Naturns completely caught our eyes and we enjoyed the flow!

Many MTB-er passed us as we were running on their trails and most of them were cheering at us. We had to stop a couple of times to take pictures of MTB-groups and to admire the areas capturing views. 🙂

After an hour of running and pictures, we ended up in the little village of Latsch, right on the foot of the Sonnberg. But this was not the end of the day..

Relaxing at Therme Meran

What could be better after a day trailrunning in the mountains, than a relaxing evening at the Therme Meran? NOTHING! 😉

We had a perfect day in and around Meran and will hopefully be back soon!
