Spartan Race Trifecta Oberndorf/Tirol 2016

Spartan Race Trifecta Oberndorf Tirol 2016

Spartan Race Trifecta Tirol:

Another hell of an idea 😉

After successfully finishing the Spartan Ultra Beast Hawai’i in August this year, we were quite curageous to try to earn our second Spartan Trifecta 2016 by completing all three distances on one weekend: the SPARTAN RACE TRIFECTA WEEKEND in OBERNDORF (TIROL) on 10th/11th August 2016.

We already participated in this event in 2015, where we took part at the Spartan Beast, the longest “classic” Spartan Race distance. And as we aren’t Newbies in Obstacle Racing anymore and used to run +50km at a stretch, we signed up for what turned out to be the hardest running event of our OCR career so far!

The Spartan Beast and Sprint took place on Saturday, followed by the Super on Sunday.

Saturday: Spartan Beast and Sprint

The first race of the weekend was as well the longest. The Spartan Beast is a +20km and +25 obstacles race which turned out to be way harder than it was the year before.

The total course was only 23 km and therefore shorter than the year before, but with 1800 height meters it was a lot steeper and more uphill. The gravel plant was first this year, followed by a long stride in a stoney river bed before crossing to the other side of the highway 161 next to Oberndorf and a loooong uphill section to the Angerer Alm. The sandbags were located on the downhill section after roughly 15km and were the hardest part of the whole race.

We didn`t have our best day and the Beast was already really tough. As we needed so much more time for the Beast than we thought, we almost missed the last heat of the Spartan Sprint at 4pm. At 4pm sharp we were at the second starting line of the day and, with only ~15 other racers who made it in time, off to the gravel plant again. The Sprint flew by really quickly and we even overtook some of the last “Sprint-only racers” on the way back to the festival area.

At the finish line we were reeeeeeally exhausted, but happy. We now knew that nothing could stopp us from finishing the Super the next day as well! 🙂

Sunday: Spartan Super

To get up early the next morning and “Spartan Up” again, was tough! Our joints were achier than after the GGUT and our whole clothes were still wet and muddy as we were too tired to properly wash them out the evening before. But thanks to Reebok Germany, we had a full new outfit for the second day of the weekend.

The Super took us to the other side of the highway again, but thankfully not all the way up the hill and the sandbag wasn’t included. 🙂 Nevertheless it were some of the hardest hours in our racing and OCR-history so far. As we didn’t feel fit and persistent that weekend anyway, also the muscular-skeletal component was bothering us too. The last few miles we were more limping than properly running…but WE MADE IT!

Final race, final medal: Super

Reaching the festival area with the finish line in sight for the third time in less than 48 hours was doubtlessly awesome – and in the end we finished as two of only 112 all the three races in Oberndorf and in 5th place in the female ranking! 🙂

After changing clothes we still got asked if we would moderate the last Spartan’s of the day to the finsih line  – and we couldn’t say no. 😉

We had a really exhausting, but completely awesome weekend with our team Munich Elite Warriors again and will definitely return to the Trifecta weekend in Tirol – but we definitely won’t do the Trifecta here again. Maybe Spartan Race wants us to moderate the full race weekend next year – we will see! 😉
